- What You Should Not Do When Booking A Chauffeur Service

The mistake that costs people money is treating the headline figure as the price. A chauffeured quote in Dubai can be low because it excludes the fuel, the tolls, the VAT and the parking, or it can be higher because it contains all four. Comparing the two numbers tells you almost nothing until you know what sits inside each one.
So the thing not to do is compare prices. The thing to do is compare inclusions, and there are eleven questions that settle it. White Line Limousine LLC has quoted chauffeured work in Dubai since 2011, and below is what should be inside a quote, the questions that expose what is missing from one, and the single question that changes the figure most.
Six items, and on our bookings all six are inside the published rate.
The chauffeur. Worth confirming anyway, because an hourly figure for a vehicle is a different product from one for a vehicle with a driver.
The fuel. No separate bill at the end and no returning a car with a full tank.
The Salik tolls. Dubai’s gates have been variably priced since 31 January 2025, at AED 6 during the weekday peaks of 6am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm, AED 4 outside those windows, nothing between 1am and 6am, and AED 4 all day on Sundays. A cross-city day in the evening peak can pass several gates.
The insurance.
The VAT. The UAE standard rate is 5 per cent, in effect since 1 January 2018, so a quote that excludes it is five per cent higher than it looks.
The parking, with airport parking as the single exclusion on our rates.
Our Car rental with driver in DubaiΒ publishes the rates and the inclusions together, and our terms and conditions carry the detail in full. A quote you cannot check against a published page is a quote worth questioning.
Ask whether the rate is quoted per vehicle or per person. This is the question that catches groups out, it changes the total more than any other item on the list, and almost nobody thinks to ask it.
Our rates are per vehicle. A five-hour booking on an entry vehicle is AED 400 whether one passenger travels or three. Priced per person, the same journey for a family of four is a different proposition entirely, and the headline figure you compared was never the figure you would pay.
On a group booking this single question can move the total by a multiple instead of a margin. Ask it first, before fuel, before tolls, before anything else.
A related version is worth asking on larger vehicles: whether the figure covers the vehicle you were shown or the vehicle class. A people carrier and a minibus carry different rates, and a quote given against a class leaves which one arrives as somebody else’s decision.
Ask whether a mileage cap applies and, in the same breath, what the rate becomes once you pass it, because the second half of that question is the one that carries the cost.
On our bookings there is no mileage cap inside Dubai. The place this question earns its keep is the longer arrangement, because a monthly deal advertised against a cap you will exceed is a different price from the one advertised. Our monthly car rental is quoted against your actual pattern of days and routes, so ask for the cap and the excess rate in the same sentence and get both in writing.
For a single long run, the honest comparison is against a fixed-price journey instead. A point to point booking prices the trip instead of the hours or the distance, which removes the question completely.
The reason distance pricing causes arguments is that the route is disputed afterwards. A fixed price for a named journey cannot be re-opened once the traffic turns out badly, which is the whole appeal.
Everyone remembers to ask how much waiting time a booking includes. Almost nobody asks the question that matters, which is when the clock starts, and the difference between those two answers is where airport bookings are won and lost.
Our airport arrivals carry sixty minutes of free waiting measured from the updated landing time. That phrase is the whole thing. Send the flight number at booking, the aircraft is tracked, and a two-hour delay moves your pickup window instead of consuming it.
Every other pickup carries fifteen minutes, measured from the booked time.
An allowance measured from the original booked time is worth little on a delayed long-haul arrival, because the hour is gone before you land. Ask for the number and the starting point together. Our airport transfer service runs on the tracked version.
These are three figures that only start to matter once something in the day moves, which on a real working day in Dubai turns out to be most of the time.
Overruns are charged at the vehicle’s hourly rate, and they depend on that vehicle’s next commitment. A car promised to another passenger at four cannot stay until five, however willing the chauffeur. Ask what an extension costs and whether the car can actually stay, because the second half of that question is the one that decides your evening.
Changes at short notice are treated as a new booking alongside the original, so a plan that moves is cheap to tell us about early and expensive to tell us about late.
Cancellation is free twenty-four hours or more before pickup, and charged in full inside eight hours or on a no-show. Ask for both thresholds, since a company quoting only the free one has told you half the policy.
For a business account, ask how changes are handled on invoice instead of per booking, which our corporate chauffeur service covers.
Ask whether a deposit or card hold is taken. On a chauffeured booking with us, neither is, because the vehicle never leaves our chauffeur. We accept American Express, Mastercard, Visa and PayTabs, and cash or cheque against an authorised credit card guarantee with identity validation, which is a payment arrangement and not a deposit. If you are being asked for a deposit, a licence or an Emirates ID, you are being quoted for self-drive rental, which is a different product with different economics.
Now the correction. An earlier version of this page argued that cheap is never best and that you should book without looking at the price. That is wrong in both directions.
A low price is not evidence of poor service. A low price with four things outside it is the actual trap, and it looks identical to a genuinely good rate until you ask. Our entry rate is AED 400 for five hours on vehicles like the Lexus ES 300h, published openly, with the fuel, the tolls, the insurance, the VAT and the parking inside it. Compare that against anything you like. The comparison is the point, and a company that would rather you did not make it is telling you something.
These are the questions worth putting to any chauffeur company in Dubai, this one included, and every answer below is ours and checkable against our published terms.
Per vehicle. A five-hour block on an entry vehicle is AED 400 whether one passenger travels or three. Ask this first on any group booking, because per-person pricing changes the total by a multiple.
Yes, along with the insurance and the parking, with airport parking as the only exclusion. UAE VAT is 5 per cent, so a quote that leaves it outside is five per cent higher than the figure you were shown.
No cap on bookings inside Dubai. On a monthly arrangement, ask for the cap and the excess rate together and get both in writing before you commit.
Sixty minutes on airport arrivals measured from the updated landing time, which requires the flight number at booking. Fifteen minutes on every other pickup, from the booked time. The starting point matters more than the number.
No. Neither is taken on a chauffeured booking. A deposit, a driving licence or an Emirates ID being requested means you are being quoted for self-drive hire.
An extension is charged at the vehicle’s hourly rate and depends on that car’s next commitment. A short-notice change is treated as a new booking alongside the original. Cancellation is free twenty-four hours ahead and charged in full inside eight hours.
No, and they are arranged at the booking stage with twenty-four hours of notice, since the seat has to be fitted before the vehicle leaves. A child under four requires one under UAE rules.
Send the date, the pickup address with the building and entrance, the destination, the passenger and bag counts, and roughly how long you need the car. We will come back with the vehicle, the rate and what is inside it, and we will say if a different booking shape costs you less.
Then put the same questions to whoever else you are considering. If their answers come back shorter than ours, the gap is the part you would have paid separately.
Rates include the chauffeur, the fuel, the Salik tolls, the insurance, the VAT and the parking, with airport parking as the only exclusion. There is no deposit, no card hold and no mileage cap inside Dubai, and child seats are free with a day’s notice.
