What to do After an Accident with a Car Rental Service?

Who handles the paperwork after an accident depends entirely on who was driving. In a chauffeured car the chauffeur is the driver, so the police report, the insurance claim and the vehicle recovery belong to the operator, and your only job is your own safety and getting where you were going. In a self-drive rental you are the driver, which means the report is yours to obtain, your rental agreement’s insurance and excess apply, and any card hold the company took is exposed.

Both situations start the same way and then diverge sharply. White Line Limousine LLC has operated chauffeured vehicles in Dubai since 2011, and this guide covers the first few minutes, the reporting channels Dubai Police themselves recommend, and exactly where the responsibility sits in each case.

This is general information and not legal advice. In an emergency, call 999.

The First Few Minutes

The order of these steps matters more than any individual one of them, and a piece of advice circulating widely on this subject is actively unsafe, and worth dealing with first.

Check for injuries first. Treat anything you are unsure about as serious.

Decide about the vehicle based on injuries and safety, in that order. Where there are no injuries and moving is safe, pulling onto the shoulder clears the carriageway. Where anyone is hurt, or the car cannot be moved safely, leave it where it is and follow the instructions of the police and emergency services.

Getting out of the car is not an automatic first step. An earlier version of this service advised exactly that. The right answer depends on where you are, because standing on a live multi-lane carriageway carries its own risk, and the RTA has publicly urged people to avoid stopping or standing on roads. If you do leave the vehicle, get behind a barrier.

Call 999 where anyone is hurt, or where the scene needs police on it straight away. The operator dispatches medical and civil defence support as required.

Newer vehicles may handle the first call themselves. The UAE’s eCall system, launched by the TDRA with Abu Dhabi Police and Dubai Police, automatically opens two-way voice communication with the nearest emergency centre after a collision, and that centre dispatches a medical team to the location.

Reporting: 901 Is for Minor Accidents, 999 Is for Emergencies

This distinction is widely got wrong, including by one of the published guides I checked while researching this Service, so it is worth setting out precisely which line does what.

999 is the emergency line, for serious incidents that need an immediate response.

901 is Dubai Police’s non-emergency hotline, covering general enquiries, requests and police services with no emergency element. Gulf News sets out the split, updated in September 2026, and it lists minor traffic accident reports with no injuries under 901 specifically.

If there is any injury, or any doubt at all, call 999. The cost of calling the emergency line unnecessarily is far lower than the cost of the reverse.

Every accident must be reported, however minor. You are also not required to wait at the scene for a police officer to attend a minor one.

The Fastest Way to Get a Minor Accident Report

Dubai Police publish two routes for obtaining a minor accident report without waiting at the roadside, and in our experience most drivers in Dubai know about neither of them.

A fuel station. Dubai Police have said to visit the nearest ADNOC, ENOC or Emarat station, where trained staff will help you issue a minor accident report. This is the quickest route, and it exists so that nobody waits on a hard shoulder for a patrol a minor collision does not need.

The Dubai Police Smart App. You complete the application form, attach photographs of the damage and submit the request.

The report is the document everything else depends on. Repairs cannot proceed without it, and insurers want it before they process a claim. Photograph the scene before anything moves: both vehicles, the damage, the positions, the road markings and the plates.

Reporting channels differ by emirate, so the Dubai routes above apply to Dubai. Our companion guide on what happens after a minor car accident in the UAE covers the channels for the other emirates and the insurance steps in more detail.

In a Chauffeured Car, None of This Is Yours

This is the part that makes a chauffeured booking genuinely different after an incident, and the difference is structural, with nothing to do with service quality or goodwill.

The chauffeur is the driver. The report is obtained in his name and the operator’s. The insurance in play is the operator’s, which sits inside your published rate alongside the fuel, the Salik tolls, the VAT and the parking. The vehicle recovery is the operator’s problem. You hold no part in the violation record and no part in the claim.

No deposit of yours is at risk, because none was taken. A chauffeured booking requires no security deposit and no card hold, so there is nothing for a company to withhold against damage.

Your only decisions are medical attention and onward travel. On our bookings, the dispatch desk arranges the replacement vehicle while the chauffeur deals with the report. You get where you were going.

Our terms and conditions set out what the rate includes, and the chauffeur service in Dubai covers the product itself.

In a Self-Drive Rental, Most of It Is Yours

The same minor incident, in a car you were driving yourself under a rental agreement, produces a very different afternoon and a longer list of things that are now your problem.

You obtain the report. Through a fuel station or the app, in your own name, and the repair cannot start without it.

Your excess applies. Self-drive agreements carry an insurance excess, and the amount sits in the contract you signed. Read that figure before you need it rather than after.

Your deposit or card hold is exposed. Self-drive companies take a deposit or block an amount against the card precisely because you drive away in their asset.

You arrange your own replacement transport, which is the point at which a good number of people call us.

Your own record carries any violation. Black points attach to the licence of the person driving, which in a self-drive rental is yours.

Getting Where You Were Going

The practical problem after even a minor collision is that your transport has stopped working while your day, your meetings and your flight have all carried on exactly as scheduled.

For a one-off, a car with a driver in Dubai covers the rest of the day, with the Lexus ES 300h at the entry rate of AED 400 for five hours. For the weeks a repair can take, a monthly arrangement is quoted against your actual pattern of days and routes. If a flight is involved, our airport transfer service runs on a tracked flight number with sixty minutes of free waiting from the updated landing time.

The timing people get wrong is leaving this until the repair quote lands. A workshop assessment and a parts wait are separate delays, and together they run longer than the week most people budget for. Arrange interim transport on the day and cancel it if the car returns early, which needs only twenty-four hours of notice.

Questions We Get Asked

These are the questions people put to us after an incident, usually from the roadside, and the first two are the ones most often answered wrongly online.

Which Number Should I Call After a Minor Accident in Dubai?

Call 901, Dubai Police’s non-emergency hotline, for a minor traffic accident with no injuries. Call 999 if anyone is injured or the situation needs immediate police attendance. If you are in any doubt, call 999.

Do I Have to Wait at the Scene for the Police?

For a minor accident, no. Every accident must still be reported, but you are not required to wait for an officer to attend a minor one, and Dubai Police direct people to a fuel station or the app instead.

Where Do I Get a Minor Accident Report in Dubai?

At the nearest ADNOC, ENOC or Emarat fuel station, where trained staff help issue it, or through the Dubai Police Smart App by completing the form and attaching photographs of the damage.

Can I Start Repairs Without the Report?

No. The report is the document the repair and the insurance claim both depend on, so obtain it before anything else happens to the vehicle.

Who Is Responsible if I Am a Passenger in a Chauffeured Car?

The chauffeur is the driver, so the report, the insurance claim and the vehicle recovery sit with the operator. No points reach your licence, no excess applies to you, and no deposit of yours is at risk because none is taken on a chauffeured booking.

Should I Move My Car After a Minor Collision?

Where nobody is injured and it is safe to do so, moving onto the shoulder clears the carriageway. Where anyone is hurt or the vehicle cannot be moved safely, leave it in place and follow police instructions.

If You Need a Car Today

Tell us where you are now, where you were heading before this happened, and how many passengers need moving. We will confirm a vehicle and a rate by email, and you can settle everything else once the report is done.

If the incident happened in one of our vehicles, there is nothing for you to arrange. The chauffeur handles the report and the desk sends a replacement to wherever you are standing. Rates include the chauffeur, the fuel, the Salik tolls, the insurance, the VAT and the parking, with airport parking as the only exclusion. Free cancellation runs up to twenty-four hours before pickup.

Chauffeurs are RTA approved and speak English and Arabic. Call +971 4 385 8433, email booking@wllimo.com, or book through the website, and we will confirm the arrangement in writing.
