- Everything About Rent a Car with a Driver in Dubai

When you rent a car with a driver in Dubai you are booking a vehicle and a professional chauffeur together, for a block of hours, and the published rate already covers the fuel, the Salik tolls, the insurance, the VAT and the parking. You do not hand over a driving licence, you do not pay a security deposit, and no money is blocked on your credit card. Those requirements belong to self-drive rental, which is a different product sold by different companies, and the two get confused constantly because the words look alike.
White Line Limousine LLC has run chauffeured vehicles in Dubai since 2011, and the questions below are the ones that actually come up on the phone. This guide covers what the service includes, which documents matter and which do not, what the published rates buy you, and the one situation where the paperwork rules change completely.
You get a specific vehicle, a chauffeur licensed by the Roads and Transport Authority, and a block of time. The two standard blocks are five hours and ten hours. Within that block the chauffeur waits while you work, eat, shop or take meetings, and the vehicle stays with you instead of being released to another passenger.
The chauffeurs speak English and Arabic, and they reach the pickup point before the booked time, which is what makes unhurried loading possible when you are travelling with luggage or with children. Every vehicle is cleaned and inspected before the booking starts.
What the published rate covers is worth stating plainly, because this is where comparisons with taxis and self-drive hire go wrong. The rate includes the chauffeur, the fuel, the Salik tolls, the insurance, the VAT and the parking, with airport parking as the single exclusion. There is no surcharge for crossing a toll gate and no separate fuel bill at the end.
This is the section that saves people a phone call, and it is also where our own older guidance on this service was wrong, so it is worth being direct.
A driving licence. You will never be asked for one. You are a passenger. A UAE licence, a home-country licence and an International Driving Permit are all irrelevant to a chauffeured booking, and anyone telling you otherwise is describing self-drive rental.
An International Driving Permit. Same reason. Tourists are often told to arrange an IDP before arriving in Dubai, and the official UAE guidance on the International Driving Permit describes it as a document for taking a vehicle abroad lawfully. For a chauffeured car in Dubai it does nothing.
An Emirates ID. Residents do not need to produce one, and visitors obviously have none. A name, a mobile number and a pickup address are enough to open a booking.
A security deposit. Nothing is collected at booking and nothing is collected when the chauffeur arrives. Self-drive companies take deposits because you are driving away in their asset. Here the asset stays with our chauffeur.
A credit card hold. No amount is blocked or frozen against your card. We accept American Express, Mastercard, Visa and PayTabs, and cash or cheque is accepted against an authorised credit card guarantee with identity validation, which is a payment arrangement and not a deposit.
Four things, and all four exist so the car reaches the right place at the right moment.
A pickup address and a destination, as specifically as you can give them. A tower name beats a district name, and a hotel entrance beats a hotel.
A date and a start time, plus some idea of how long you want the car. If you are unsure, book the five-hour block and extend it on the day.
A mobile number the chauffeur can reach on arrival, ideally one that works on a UAE network.
A flight number if the booking starts at an airport. Send the number instead of an estimated landing time, because the number lets us track the aircraft. Airport arrivals carry sixty minutes of free waiting measured from the updated landing time, so a delayed flight does not cost you the booking. Every other pickup carries fifteen minutes.
Published rates start at AED 400 for a five-hour block and AED 700 for ten hours, and at that level you are choosing between the Lexus ES 300h, the Tesla Model Y with a chauffeur and the BYD Han for a five-hour block. All three seat three passengers with three bags.
Moving up, the BMW 5 Series with a driver takes three passengers and four bags, which matters more often than people expect, since seats and luggage capacity do not rise together across a fleet. A seven-seat vehicle does not automatically swallow seven suitcases.
Cancellation is free twenty-four hours or more before pickup. Inside eight hours, or on a no-show, the booking is charged in full. Changes requested at short notice are treated as a new booking alongside the original, so tell us early when plans move.
For a specific district the rate card is the same, whether you are booking a car with driver in Al Barsha or in International City.
One exception exists, and it is worth knowing about before you plan a long trip. Crossing a land border changes the paperwork, because the passengers are leaving the country rather than moving around inside it. On a chauffeured run into Saudi Arabia every passenger needs a valid passport and the correct visa, and the trip has to be arranged with enough notice for the vehicle and driver documentation to be in order. That notice is the part people underestimate, so raise a cross-border trip days ahead of the travel date and treat the confirmation as the point at which it is booked.
Inside the UAE none of this applies. Travel between the emirates is an ordinary booking with ordinary notice, whether you are heading to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah, and the only practical differences are journey time and the toll system in force on the roads you use. Dubai roads carry Salik gates and the approaches to Abu Dhabi island carry Darb gates, and both sit inside the published rate.
No. A chauffeur drives, so your licence status has no bearing on the booking. This question comes up because self-drive rental requires a licence, an International Driving Permit for many nationalities, and an Emirates ID or passport, and the two services get described in the same language.
No. Nothing is collected at booking and nothing is collected at pickup. If you have read that deposits are taken when the driver arrives, that describes self-drive hire or a different operator.
Send the flight number at booking and the aircraft is tracked. Airport arrivals include sixty minutes of free waiting measured from the updated landing time, so a two-hour delay moves your pickup rather than cancelling it.
Usually yes, subject to the vehicle’s next commitment, and the extension is charged at that vehicle’s hourly rate. Ask the chauffeur as early in the block as you can, since a car already promised elsewhere cannot stay.
No. Salik tolls, fuel, insurance, VAT and parking are inside the published rate, with airport parking the only exclusion. You will not see a toll line on the invoice.
Check the figure for the specific vehicle instead of assuming, because capacity does not scale the way people expect. The three cars at the entry rate each carry three passengers and three bags, and the BMW 5 Series carries three passengers and four bags.
Tell us the date, the start time, the pickup address and roughly how long you want the car, and we will confirm the vehicle and the rate by email. Every new booking, every change and every cancellation generates a confirmation email, so you always have the current version of the arrangement in writing. If the booking starts at an airport, send the flight number and the aircraft gets tracked.
You will not be asked for a licence, an International Driving Permit, an Emirates ID or a deposit, because none of those apply when a chauffeur is driving. If you have been asked for them elsewhere, you were being quoted for self-drive hire.
