Choosing the Vehicle for an Abu Dhabi Arrival
Seat count is the figure everyone checks and the wrong one to stop at. Bags decide more airport bookings than passengers do, because seats and luggage do not rise together across a fleet.
Lexus ES 300h carries three passengers and three bags. The standard booking for a solo traveller, a couple or three colleagues arriving light.
BMW 5 Series carries three passengers and four bags. The same party with one more case, which is a smaller step in price than most people expect.
Citroen Spacetourer carries six passengers and seven bags. The one worth knowing about, because several seven seat vehicles hold only five bags. A family of six landing with a case each fits this and will struggle in a vehicle that looks larger on paper.
Mercedes V250 carries six passengers and five bags, and suits small delegations and business groups on the longer Dubai run.
GMC Yukon XL carries seven passengers and five bags, and is the more comfortable choice over the ninety minute drive between the emirates.
Mercedes S-Class carries three passengers and three bags, and is booked when the car is part of the impression, usually for a client collection or an executive arrival at a Corniche hotel.
Mercedes Sprinter carries twelve passengers and twelve bags, and the 14 Seater High Roof carries fourteen passengers and ten bags. Both are regular bookings for crews, conference delegations and multi family arrivals.
Groups past fourteen passengers move to a coach. Our van rental in Abu Dhabi covers the six to fourteen seat vehicles as a standalone booking, and the full list with both figures for every vehicle sits on our fleet.
Arrivals at Zayed International Airport
Send the flight number instead of an estimated landing time. That one detail does more work than anything else on the booking, because it lets us track the aircraft itself, and the sixty minute grace period then runs from when the plane actually lands.
The practical consequence is worth spelling out. If your flight arrives ninety minutes behind schedule, the free hour starts at the real landing time, ninety minutes later than the board said. A slow baggage belt, a queue at passport control or a long walk from a remote stand all sit inside it.
Your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall, past customs, before you reach it. Terminal A is a single building, so there is no terminal to get wrong and no cross airport walk to plan for. For a formal reception with a name board held inside the terminal, add our airport meet and greet service to the booking.
Three things to send with any arrival. The flight number. Whether the party is landing on more than one flight, so the vehicle is scheduled around the last arrival. And the case count including oversized items, since a golf bag or a pushchair takes roughly the space of two suitcases.
Departures to Zayed International
On a departure the calculation runs backwards, and on this route it needs more care than most.
Tell us the check in time you are aiming for and leave the pickup time to us. We work backwards through the traffic on your route, the Darb peak windows if your journey crosses them, and the time you want at the terminal. A departure leaving Abu Dhabi city at 8am and one leaving Dubai Marina at 5pm need very different margins, and the second one crosses two toll systems in their busiest hours.
Your chauffeur reaches the pickup point ahead of the booked time, which is what makes loading unhurried at the kerb. Non airport transfers carry fifteen minutes of free waiting from the booked time.
Where a day has a tight join in it, such as a meeting that may overrun before a flight, say so at the enquiry stage. Planning the buffer into the booking costs less than paying for it as waiting time afterwards.
Abu Dhabi to Dubai and Back
This is the longest routine transfer we run and the one where the vehicle choice matters most, because a journey of roughly ninety minutes is a very different experience in a saloon with three cases wedged in than in a van sized for the party.
To Deira, Bur Dubai and Dubai International. The eastern side of Dubai, and the longest version of the run. Airport to airport legs are booked as one journey with the luggage loaded once, so send both flight numbers.
To Downtown, Business Bay and DIFC. The business districts, usually booked for an arrival before a morning meeting. Basement ramps across both districts take our vehicles, so you are set down at the entrance itself.
To Dubai Marina, JBR and Palm Jumeirah. Closer to Abu Dhabi than the eastern districts are, which makes this shorter than many people assume. Tower and hotel entrances need naming in advance.
To Al Maktoum International at Dubai South. The closest Dubai airport to Abu Dhabi, sitting on the right side of the city for this run. Our Al Maktoum airport transfer covers that airport directly.
To Sharjah and the northern emirates. Longer again, crossing the whole of Dubai on the way. Groups travel better in a van over this distance, and our Sharjah airport transfer covers arrivals at the other end.
Our Dubai to Abu Dhabi chauffeur service and our private taxi between Dubai and Abu Dhabi both cover the route as a standalone booking, with or without an airport at either end.
Where Guests Go From Zayed International
Most arrivals here are heading to one of a handful of destinations, and each carries its own pickup detail worth sending at the booking stage.
Saadiyat Island. Louvre Abu Dhabi, the beach resorts and the cultural district. Hotel forecourts here are generous, so vehicle size is rarely the constraint.
Yas Island. Ferrari World, Yas Marina Circuit, Yas Waterworld and the hotel cluster. Event days change everything about access and timing, so tell us if you are arriving around a race or a concert.
The Corniche and Al Markaziyah. The waterfront hotels and the older city centre. Kerbside space is tight along parts of the Corniche, so name the hotel entrance.
Al Maryah Island and Al Reem Island. The financial district and the newer residential towers. Business arrivals cluster here, often early in the morning before a meeting.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the surrounding area. A common first stop straight from the airport for visitors on a short trip, and worth building into the booking at the enquiry stage.
ADNEC and the exhibition district. Delegate arrivals, usually in groups and usually around a show date. A van or a minibus almost always costs less than several cars.
Khalifa City, Masdar City and the airport fringe. The short local runs, close enough that a transfer is quick and the toll windows rarely come into play.
Al Ain. Roughly ninety minutes inland, quoted as its own journey on its own figures.
Who Books Abu Dhabi Airport Transfers
Etihad passengers arriving on long haul services, often early in the morning, with full size cases and a hotel booked before the airport taxi rank has woken up.
Business travellers heading to Al Maryah Island or ADNEC, who need the margin built into the pickup time rather than discovered on the road. Companies doing this regularly set it up through our corporate chauffeur service and settle it as one account.
Families landing with children and a case each, where the luggage figure decides the vehicle and a seven seat car with five bag space quietly does not work.
Conference and event delegations arriving around an ADNEC show or a Yas Island event date, often on several flights, needing one vehicle scheduled around the last landing.
Travellers connecting to Dubai, who want one chauffeur for the whole ninety minute run instead of a handover halfway, and who would rather not watch a meter through two toll systems.
Hotels and travel agencies booking for guests, who need the rate fixed and in writing in advance so it can be passed on or invoiced cleanly.
Holding the Car After an Abu Dhabi Arrival
Some arrivals are not a transfer at all. A delegation landing at Zayed International for a single day of meetings, or a family arriving for a day of sightseeing before a hotel check in, is better served by keeping the vehicle and the chauffeur for the whole day than by booking three separate legs.
That is quoted as half day or full day hire instead of per journey, which usually works out lower than three transfers once waiting time is counted. The chauffeur stays with you, the luggage stays in the car between stops, and nothing needs rebooking when a meeting runs long. Our car with driver service sets out how the half day and full day figures work.
Tell us at the enquiry stage whether the car is being held or released after the drop off, because the two are priced on different bases and a day of held hire is far easier to arrange in advance than to convert on the road.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Abu Dhabi Airport Called Now?
Zayed International Airport, renamed from Abu Dhabi International Airport with effect from 9 February 2024. The IATA code remains AUH, so tickets, bookings and baggage tags are unaffected. Both names refer to the same airport.
Which Terminal Should I Be Met At?
Terminal A, which opened in late 2023 and handles passenger operations. One building means one arrivals hall, so there is no terminal to get wrong, and your chauffeur is waiting there before you clear customs.
How Much Is a Taxi From Abu Dhabi Airport?
Into Abu Dhabi city centre a metered taxi commonly lands between AED 58 and 80 depending on the hour. The figure is not known until the meter stops, where a booked transfer carries one agreed figure with the tolls already inside it.
What Is Darb and Will It Be Added to My Fare?
Darb is Abu Dhabi’s road toll system, separate from Dubai’s Salik. A gate charges AED 4 per crossing during peak hours, which run 7am to 9am and 3pm to 7pm Monday to Saturday. Our quoted rate already includes it, so nothing is added afterwards.
Are Darb Tolls Charged at All Times?
No. Crossings outside the morning and afternoon peak windows are free, and Sundays and official public holidays are free all day. The daily and monthly caps that used to apply were removed in September 2025.
How Long Is the Transfer From Abu Dhabi Airport to Dubai?
Roughly ninety minutes to most of Dubai in ordinary conditions, with the western districts such as Dubai Marina and Jebel Ali being closer than Deira or Dubai International. The afternoon peak and the toll windows both affect it.
How Much Free Waiting Time Is Included?
Sixty minutes on airport arrivals, measured from your updated landing time, which moves when the aircraft does. Other transfers carry fifteen minutes from the booked pickup time.
Do You Track My Flight?
Yes, which is why we ask for the flight number and never for an estimated arrival time. If the aircraft lands late, your pickup and the free waiting period both move with it.
Which Vehicle Should I Book for a Family With Luggage?
Count the cases alongside the passengers. A Citroen Spacetourer carries six passengers and seven bags, where several seven seat vehicles carry only five. Send both numbers and we will name the one that takes them.
Can I Book a Transfer From Abu Dhabi Airport to Yas Island or Saadiyat?
Yes, and both are short runs from the airport. Yas Island on an event day needs more notice, since access and timing around a race or a concert change considerably.
Can You Collect a Group Arriving on Different Flights?
Yes. Tell us every flight number and the vehicle is scheduled around the last landing instead of the first, which saves the earlier arrivals waiting in the hall without a plan.
Do I Need a Licence or a Deposit to Book?
No. You are never driving, so no driving licence, International Driving Permit, Emirates ID or security deposit is required. Those apply to self drive rental.
