- Family Vacation and Rent A Car With Driver in Dubai

Dubai is one of the easier long haul destinations to do with children. It is safe, it is clean, it is packed with attractions built for families, and it is sunny when it is grey at home. The hard part is never the city. It is the logistics: distances are bigger than they look, the midday heat between May and September is a real constraint on a day’s plan, and juggling child seats, buggies and tired children in a taxi queue gets old by day two.
Renting a car with a driver solves that, and there is a legal reason as well as a practical one. UAE law requires a child safety seat for every child up to four years old, and standard taxis and ride hailing vehicles do not carry them. A booked car does, fitted before you are collected, in the same vehicle every day of your trip.
White Line Limousine LLC has run chauffeured cars in Dubai since 2011. This guide covers what the law actually requires, how to pick a vehicle that takes your luggage as well as your family, how to group attractions so you stop losing an hour a day to driving, and what the booking costs.
This is the part most family travel guides skip, and it is the part that decides what you can legally do on the day you land.
The rules come from Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017 on traffic control, part of the wider seat belt law that took effect on 1 July 2017. Three requirements matter for a family visiting Dubai.
Children up to four years old must be in a child safety seat. This applies in private vehicles, and it is not a recommendation.
The front seat has two thresholds, and a child must pass both. A front seat passenger must be at least 145 centimetres tall and at least 10 years old. A tall eight year old still travels in the back. So does a short twelve year old.
A child seat cannot be installed in the front seat at all. Even where a front airbag can be disabled, the seat belongs in the back.
The penalty is AED 400 and four black points, and this is the detail worth understanding properly: it falls on the driver, not the parent. Black points attach to a driving licence. On a booked car with a chauffeur, the legal exposure sits with us and with the company, which is precisely why we fit the seats ourselves and check them, in place of taking your word for an age at the kerb.
Child seats sold in the UAE are certified to standards overseen by the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology. If you bring your own seat from home, it will almost certainly be fine, and we will fit it for you.
Age is the legal threshold. Weight is what decides the actual seat, and the groups are standard across Europe and the Gulf.
Two points road safety guidance is consistent on. A baby should stay rear facing until the top of the head reaches the top of the seat, and longer is better. And although the law stops at four, booster use is advised until around ten to twelve years, which is also roughly when a child reaches the 145 centimetre front seat threshold.
Send us weights as well as ages when you book. A heavy three year old and a light five year old need different seats from the ones their birthdays suggest, and getting that right at the booking stage means it is right for every journey of the trip.
We would rather be straight about the alternatives than pretend only one option exists.
Standard RTA taxis do not carry child seats. Neither do the standard ride hailing categories. The law still applies to the journey, and the driver still carries the fine. In practice families end up holding a toddler on a lap, which is both illegal and the thing the law exists to prevent.
You cannot rely on the larger ride hailing vehicles either. Booking a bigger car gets you more seats, and no restraints.
Carrying your own seat around a city for a week is a poor trade. It works for one airport run. It stops working on day three, when the seat is in a hotel room and you are at Dubai Mall.
The honest summary: for a couple with no small children and no fixed schedule, taxis and the Metro are cheap and perfectly good, and we will tell you so. The arithmetic changes the moment a child under four is involved, and it changes again with a buggy, a second child, or a day that has three stops in it.
Tell us the ages and the weights when you book and the right seats are fitted before the vehicle reaches you.
Fitted before pickup, every time. The seats go in at the depot, properly anchored, and they stay for the whole booking. There is nothing to install at the kerb with a tired child waiting.
The same vehicle and the same seats for the whole trip. A family on a seven day booking gets the same car each morning. The seats are already adjusted, which removes the ten minutes most families lose at the start of every journey.
Your own seat is welcome. If you have brought a seat you trust, we will fit it instead and put ours aside.
Tell us about anything unusual. Twins, a child who needs a specific seat for medical reasons, a booster for an older child who is still under 145 centimetres. These are all ordinary requests and all easier to arrange a week ahead than on the morning.
Our car with driver service in Dubai covers the booking terms in full.
Dubai’s summer is not a mild inconvenience and the numbers are worth seeing before you build an itinerary around a walking day.
Average daily highs, in degrees Celsius, run 37.5 in May, 39.9 in June, 41.7 in July, 42.1 in August and 39.5 in September, easing to 36.5 in October. Summer in Dubai effectively runs from the last week of April to the first week of October. By contrast January averages a daily high of around 24 degrees, which is why the winter months are peak family season here.
What that means for a day with children is specific.
Outdoor attractions belong before 11am or after 4pm between May and September. The middle of the day goes to malls, aquariums, museums and indoor play.
The car becomes the cool base between stops, which is the single biggest practical difference a private vehicle makes in summer. Your driver pre-cools the vehicle before you come out, so a child goes from an air conditioned building into an air conditioned car.
Water and shade planning beats endurance. A buggy with a sun cover, a cool bag that lives in the boot, and a driver who can collect you from the nearest shaded entrance, no walk across a car park.
Even in winter, the car earns its place. A January day is comfortable at around 24 degrees and still involves forty minutes between Atlantis and Downtown.
Everybody counts seats. Luggage is what actually decides a family booking, because seats and boot space do not rise together across a fleet. A seven seat vehicle can have less usable boot than a six seat one, and that is the trap families fall into.
The figures that matter are passengers and bags together.
Citroen Spacetourer takes six passengers and seven bags, and it is the one to know about. Several seven seat vehicles hold only five bags. A family of six with a case each and a buggy fits this comfortably and will struggle in something that looks larger on paper.
Toyota Previa takes seven passengers and seven bags, which is the best seat to luggage ratio in the fleet and the right answer for a large family travelling with everything.
Kia Carnival and Honda Odyssey both take seven passengers and five bags. Excellent for a family of five or six who are not carrying a case each, and the usual choice for a week of day trips where the luggage is at the hotel.
Mercedes V250 takes six passengers and five bags, with a more executive interior, and is the common pick for families who want the van practicality without the people carrier feel.
GMC Yukon XL and Chevrolet Suburban take seven passengers and five bags, sitting higher, which some children prefer and which makes a difference on a longer run out of the city.
Lexus ES 300h, Tesla Model Y and BYD Han take three passengers and three bags, and work for a family of three travelling light. Note the seat arithmetic here: two child seats across the back of a saloon leaves one adult seat beside them, and the front is closed to anybody under 145 centimetres and ten years. A family of four with two toddlers is a van booking, not a saloon booking, whatever the seat count says.
12 Seater Toyota Hiace, Mercedes Sprinter and 14 Seater High Roof cover multi family trips and extended family groups travelling together.
The full list with both figures for every vehicle is on our fleet .
This is the arithmetic that catches families out, so it is worth doing properly.
A full size travel system takes roughly the space of a large suitcase. A compact or cabin sized buggy takes about half that. Two children usually means two buggies or one double, and a double sits across the boot, which eats the width.
Child seats take seats and no boot space, but they take a particular seat. Two seats side by side in the second row of a van usually leaves the third row usable. Two seats in a saloon’s back row leaves one narrow adult space in the middle.
Beach and pool kit lives in the car all day. Towels, a cool bag, spare clothes and sun shelter add up to another case worth of space, and the whole point of a held vehicle is that none of it comes into the attraction with you.
Send the real inventory when you book. Number of passengers, number of cases, number and type of buggies, and anything oversized. We will name the vehicle that takes it, including the times a smaller one will do and save you money.
Our rates are published and run on two blocks: five hours for a half day and ten hours for a full day. The clock starts at your pickup time and runs whether the car is moving or waiting, which is the point of it. A day with three short runs and five hours inside attractions is one booking, never three transfers with waiting charges on top.
Vans, minibuses and people carriers are quoted on the trip, because group vehicles vary more by specification. Send the headcount and the luggage and a written figure comes back.
Every figure includes the chauffeur, the fuel, Salik tolls, VAT, insurance and parking, with airport parking the single exception. Child seats are arranged as part of the booking. Hours past the block are charged at the vehicle’s agreed hourly rate, named in your quote before you confirm. Nothing reaches an invoice that was not agreed first.
Dubai’s road toll is Salik, and since 31 January 2025 it has charged by time of day. A crossing costs AED 6 in the weekday peaks of 6am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm and AED 4 off peak, from 10am to 4pm and from 8pm to 1am. It costs nothing between 1am and 6am, and AED 4 all day on Sundays outside public holidays and major events.
A family day crossing four or five gates is a real cost, and it varies with the hour you travel. Because our rate absorbs it, a 7am start and a 2pm start cost you the same figure. There is one small practical bonus: an early airport run before 6am lands inside the free window anyway.
Distances deceive here more than in almost any city, because the attractions are spread along fifty kilometres of coast and inland into Dubailand. Atlantis to Global Village is comfortably over forty minutes. Grouping by area is the single biggest time saving decision in a Dubai family itinerary, and it is the thing your driver can do better than a map app, because they know where the family entrance is.
The Palm and Marina cluster. Atlantis and Aquaventure, The Lost Chambers, Marina and JBR, The Beach, and the Ain Dubai area. A half day minimum, and realistically a full day with a water park in it.
Downtown and Business Bay. Dubai Mall, Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, the Fountain show, Burj Khalifa, and the Museum of the Future just across on Sheikh Zayed Road. The densest cluster in the city and the one that works best in the heat, because almost all of it is indoors and connected.
Al Barsha and Mall of the Emirates. Ski Dubai, the mall itself and the surrounding hotels. The obvious midday stop in summer, and a genuinely good one on a July afternoon.
Dubailand and the Arabian Ranches side. Global Village, Dubai Miracle Garden, IMG Worlds of Adventure, Dubai Autodrome. This cluster is the one families most often get wrong, because it sits well inland and the drive out is long. Doing two of these in one trip, in place of two separate trips, saves you an hour and a half.
Jumeirah and the beaches. Kite Beach with its play areas, Jumeirah Beach, La Mer, Jumeirah Mosque and Etihad Museum. Short hops along one road and ideal for a late afternoon.
Deira and the Creek. Dubai Frame nearby, the souks, Al Seef, the abra crossing and Dubai Parks and Resorts further out towards Jebel Ali. The older city, and the half day most first time visitors skip and later wish they had not.
Out of the city. Dubai Safari Park, Hatta, and the desert for a late afternoon trip. Each is its own booking, and the desert is best as a 4pm departure in the cooler months.
Tell us which attractions matter most and let the driver set the order. Our private city tour is the fastest way for a first time visitor to get their bearings, and our point to point transfer service covers the single leg where that is genuinely all you need.
Dubai’s outdoor attractions close through the hottest months, which reshapes a family itinerary depending on when you come. For the 2026 to 2027 season the reopening dates are:
Global Village closed its previous season in early May, which is the pattern to expect each year.
If you are travelling between May and September, build the itinerary around indoor attractions and water parks and treat the outdoor venues as closed. The Dubai Butterfly Garden, indoors and next to Miracle Garden, stays open through the summer and is a useful substitute.
If you are travelling from mid October onwards, the whole outdoor calendar is available and the weather is on your side. This is also the busier season, so book the vehicle earlier.
Seasonal dates move, so check the venue’s own site close to your trip. We will flag anything on your list that is closed for the season when we quote the day.
A real Dubai family day has a gap in the middle of it, and planning for that gap is what separates a good itinerary from an exhausting one.
One vehicle, one driver, and no taxi queue at any point in that day. If the plan changes at step three because somebody is overtired, it changes without a phone call.
The airport is where a family trip either starts well or starts badly, and it is worth booking properly.
Send the flight number, not an estimated landing time. That lets us track the aircraft, so a delayed flight moves your pickup with it. Arrivals carry sixty minutes of free waiting measured from the actual landing time, which covers a slow baggage belt and a queue at passport control with a tired child in tow.
The child seats are already fitted when you land. No assembling anything in an arrivals car park at 2am.
A name board in the arrivals hall beats a taxi rank after a seven hour flight with children. Our airport meet and greet service adds a formal reception inside the terminal, and our Dubai airport transfer service covers the arrival in full.
Tell us if the family is landing on more than one flight, so the vehicle is scheduled around the last arrival and never the first.
A family of three or four travelling light, mostly in the Downtown and Marina clusters, is usually best served by half day bookings on the days they have plans and nothing on the days they do not.
A family of five or six with young children wants a van on a full day block, because the seat and buggy arithmetic rules out a saloon and the day will have a nap in the middle of it.
A first visit of under a week benefits from a city tour on day one to get oriented, then targeted bookings after that.
A longer stay or a repeat visit is usually cheaper on a standing arrangement than on daily bookings. Our monthly car rental with driver covers that, with the same vehicle and the same fitted seats throughout.
Multi family or extended family trips move to a minibus, which almost always costs less than two cars and keeps everybody together.
Families combining Dubai with another emirate can hold one vehicle and one driver for the whole run. Our Abu Dhabi chauffeur service and our Fujairah car with driver cover the two most popular day trips out of the city.
Yes. Under Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017, children up to four years old must be in a child safety seat. The penalty for a violation is AED 400 and four black points, and it falls on the driver. A child seat also cannot be installed in the front seat.
A front seat passenger must be at least 145 centimetres tall and at least 10 years old, and a child has to meet both thresholds. A tall eight year old still travels in the back, and so does a twelve year old under 145 centimetres.
Standard RTA taxis and the standard ride hailing categories do not carry child seats, and booking a larger ride hailing vehicle gets you more seats without restraints. The legal requirement still applies to the journey, which is the main reason families on a Dubai trip book a car with a driver.
Yes. Tell us the ages and the weights when you book and the right seats are fitted before the vehicle reaches you, properly anchored, and they stay in place for the whole booking. If you have brought your own seat we will fit that instead.
Weight decides the seat. Group 0 rear facing carriers cover up to 10 kilograms and Group 0+ up to 13. Group 1 seats cover 9 to 18 kilograms. Booster seats cover 15 to 25 kilograms and booster cushions 22 to 36. Send the weight as well as the age, since a heavy three year old and a light five year old need different seats from the ones their birthdays suggest.
Published rates start at AED 400 for five hours and AED 700 for ten hours in a Lexus ES 300h, Tesla Model Y or BYD Han, rising with vehicle class. Vans and people carriers are quoted on the trip. Every figure includes the chauffeur, the fuel, Salik, VAT, insurance and parking, with airport parking the only exclusion.
Count the bags alongside the passengers. A Citroen Spacetourer takes six passengers and seven bags, where several seven seat vehicles take only five. A Toyota Previa takes seven and seven. Send both numbers plus the buggies and we will name the one that fits.
Yes, and that is the point of the half day and full day blocks. The clock runs from your pickup time whether the car is moving or waiting, so a day with three stops and several hours inside attractions is one booking and never three transfers with waiting charges added.
Yes, and most of our family bookings include exactly that. The driver stays on standby and collects you when you are ready. Building the nap into the booking costs nothing, where arranging transport twice around it costs both money and waiting.
Between about mid October and April. Average daily highs reach 42 degrees Celsius in August and around 24 in January, and the outdoor attractions close for the summer. For the 2026 to 2027 season, Dubai Parks and Resorts reopened on 7 October, Miracle Garden on 8 October, Dubai Safari Park on 12 October and Global Village on 14 October.
Further than they look. Atlantis on the Palm to Global Village inland is comfortably over forty minutes. Grouping attractions by area saves most families an hour a day, and the Dubailand cluster of Global Village, Miracle Garden and IMG Worlds is the one people most often split across two trips by mistake.
No. Nobody in your party is driving, so no driving licence, International Driving Permit, Emirates ID or security deposit is required. Those are self drive rental requirements and they do not apply when a chauffeur is at the wheel.
The legal requirements here come from Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017 and the wider seat belt law that took effect on 1 July 2017, cross checked against UAE road safety guidance and press reporting of the penalty. The child seat weight groups follow standard classifications used across Europe and the Gulf, and certification in the UAE is overseen by the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology.
The temperature figures are published monthly averages for Dubai. The seasonal reopening dates are those announced for the 2026 to 2027 season and, like all seasonal dates, are worth checking with the venue close to your trip. Salik rates are the variable pricing schedule in force since 31 January 2025.
All rates quoted are our own published figures, and we have not estimated or illustrated any price on this service. Where we do not publish a rate, such as for vans and minibuses, we have said that it is quoted on the trip and left the number out.
Laws, fines, seasonal dates and rates all change. This guide was last reviewed in October 2026.
